My Dog has Fleas

What Are Fleas?
Fleas are tiny, wingless insects that feed on the blood of pets and people. They multiply rapidly and can cause itching, discomfort, allergic reactions, and even transmit diseases.
Signs Your Pet Might Have Fleas:
-
Excessive scratching, biting or licking
-
Flea dirt (small black specks) in the coat or on bedding
-
Red, irritated skin or hair loss
-
Seeing fleas moving on the skin
Even a few fleas can cause a big problem, so early action is key!
Why Fleas Are a Problem:
-
Fast breeders: One flea can lay 40–50 eggs per day
-
Can infest your home: Carpets, bedding, sofas – fleas hide everywhere
-
Health risks: Fleas can transmit tapeworm and cause flea allergy dermatitis
Important: Fleas don’t only come from pets! People can unknowingly bring fleas into the home on shoes, clothing, or bags. Visiting other homes or parks, or even sitting on public transport, can be enough. Just because your pet doesn’t go out much doesn’t mean your home is immune.
Flea Treatment and Prevention:
-
Treat your pet: Use vet-recommended spot-ons, tablets or flea shampoos
-
Treat your home: Vacuum daily, wash bedding, use flea sprays
-
Repeat regularly: Prevention is better (and easier) than cure!

Can My Pet Be Groomed with Fleas?
If fleas are found during a groom, we may need to reschedule or provide a flea bath. Fleas can easily spread to other pets, so it’s important to treat them promptly. There will be an additional cost for this as the whole salon will have to be sanitised and treated.
Helpful Tips:
-
Check your pet’s coat weekly with a flea comb
-
Use year-round prevention
-
Speak to your vet if you’re unsure what treatment to use
